Version 2

826 National, Inc. (“826 National”), the owner of this website, is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy describes how 826 National protects the privacy and security of the personally identifiable information of users of this 826 Digital website (the “Website”).

Acceptance of Privacy Policy
By using the Website, you signify your acceptance of this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy, please do not use this Website. Your continued use of the Website following the posting of changes to these terms will mean that you accept those changes.

What This Privacy Policy Covers
This policy covers how 826 National treats personal information that it collects and receives through this Website, including information that you submit to sign up for an account, become a member, or receive our email newsletter. Personal information is information about you that is personally identifiable, like your name, address, email address, or phone number, and that is not otherwise publicly available.

Information Collection and Use

826 National collects personal information for the following:

Users: 826 Digital is primarily used by, designed for, and marketed toward educators, formal and informal.

  • 826 National collects personal information when you register on the Website to create an account, become a member, or register for an email newsletter. If you opt to register for the email newsletter, information gets sent to Mailchimp; you can view their privacy policy here. None of these actions are required to use the Website. Visitors may still browse the Website without registration of any type. Only users with accounts may download, share, bookmark, and upload resources.
  • When you register or make a donation we ask for your name, mailing address, email address, school or organization name, billing information, and whether you like pirates. 826 National uses your personal information for the general purpose of fulfilling your request to create an account or receive an email newsletter.
  • Additionally, when you create an account, we also ask for your role (educator or parent/caregiver), type of workplace, school location, grade level(s) taught, approximate number of students you work with, percentage of students at your school who qualify for government programs, and whether you or your students participate in 826 programs. This information is used internally only to help us understand our users and to measure impact. The account is only editable by the user and is not an account managed by 826 National.
  • There is an optional discussion feature on the Website that users with accounts can participate in. These discussions are moderated by 826 National. When a user adds a comment, their name along with their optional profile picture as they have entered it on their account will appear next to their comment. Users can edit their comments at any time.
  • Lastly, through 826 Digital, users can opt to visit our Bookstore and also donate to 826. Both of these features take the user to an external site. The Bookstore is operated by Shopify, and information collected is for the purpose of fulfilling book orders; here is their privacy policy. Classy powers the donate page and information collected there is to facilitate the donation; here is their privacy policy.

Educator Leaders:
Users have the option to apply to be part of the 826 Digital Educator Leaders group. If they opt to do so, they are asked to provide the same basic information as a user does when creating an account. Additionally, applicants submit a writing lesson as a PDF within the 826 Digital platform. If they are selected to be an Educator Leader, their basic profile information and optional profile picture will appear on the platform along with their writing lesson. Permission to do so is part of the application process. Ownership of the uploaded lesson(s) is detailed here.

Children:
When

  • 826 National is committed to protecting the privacy of children. The only circumstance in which we collect personal information from children is when we ask for student writing submissions for publication purposes. In this case, any student under the age of 18 is required to have parental consent as given through the Permission to Publish Student Work.

What

  • When submitting their writing, students are asked for their first and last name, school, grade level, and contact information (email address and phone number). Parents and teachers can submit on behalf of their student.

How

  • Student writing along with the submission form is collected using Google Forms. If a student’s writing has been selected to be published, their name, school, and grade may appear along with their writing, with their consent. Their contact information is used so that we can contact the student to inform them that their writing has been selected and how it will be published. If a student’s writing has not been selected, their personal information is not used. Ownership of the writing is detailed here.
