Shifting the Narrative

Students will report on a story relevant to their community, while also growing their critical media literacy skills.

Work Day

Students will use this session to take all of the knowledge they gained in the previous session to begin writing the draft of their story.
What Your Students Will Learn

Students will learn how to take all of their separate components and combine them into a cohesive piece of community journalism.

What Your Students Will Produce

Your students will produce a working draft of their final article.

What You Will Need

  • Devices with Internet access (tablets or computers)
    • 1 per student

Before You Start

Today, students will begin drafting their final piece. Make sure everyone has the following documents:

  • Completed story outline
  • Interview notes
  • Additional media, if necessary
  • Supporting research from last session
