Students will craft an argument about a controversial topic they hold a personal connection to and record their argument to persuade their audience.

What You Will Do

Share the “State Your Claim” writing graphic organizer handout with students.

Students will:

  1. Identity a controversial topic they have a personal connection to.
  2. Review and identify key terms used in argumentative writing.
  3. Explore their personal connection to their writing topic.
  4. Develop their stance using online tools.
  5. Research their topic to refine their stance and beliefs.
  6. Revise their work.
  7. Record their writing to persuade their target audience.
