Making meaning out of the world around us is a valuable life skill that can be tricky to learn, given how quickly the world around us moves. Writing makes time for students to reflect on relationships and to better understand each other. It can serve as a window for students to look through, inviting them to explore how diverse experiences shape the unique stories of those we share the world with, past and present. Approaching writing through a lens of social awareness, centered on empathy and perspective-taking, allows students to recognize how all of our stories are informed by our different realities and yet are deeply interconnected.
