Description
They weigh around a pound and are just under a foot tall. They have gray, sometimes brown, fur with white bellies.
Lifespan
They live between two and six years.
Temperature
They live year-round, but in the winter they use their fat to stay warm.
Diet
They are omnivores, so they eat a lot of foods, like frogs, tree bark, berries, walnuts, and acorns.
Habitat
Eastern gray squirrels live in dense wooded areas in eastern North America. They build nests called “dreys” made of leaves and twigs.
Predators
Eastern gray squirrels are eaten by raccoons, owls, snakes, and hawks.
Interesting Facts
Their eyes are positioned on their heads so they can see upward to watch for bird predators.
