When she has time, Sophie Tseng loves to sit in her room, curl up in the blankets, and read. This is where she gathers all her ideas and expands her vocabulary, and it allows her imagination to grow. She also likes to explore new places with her adventurous older brother and enjoy the thrill.
Writing Prompt: Watch the video and follow along with the mentor text below. Then, write or draw about a place that makes you feel safe. Use sensory language to describe the way it looks, feels, smells, sounds, and tastes. Describe what you like to do in this place and why you feel like you can be yourself.
My Carpet
In my comfy little house,
we have an enchanted carpet.
When I am sad,
the carpet turns into a fluffy rug,
sitting there waiting for me.
When I am happy,
the carpet turns into a dancing cloth
under my feet.
When I am exhausted,
the carpet turns into a supporting bed,
ready for me to lie on.
After a long day,
the carpet turns one last time,
this time into a magical carpet of Aladdin’s,
swaying in my dreams.
