What You Will Do

While short stories are generally defined by their ability to tell fictional stories in only a few pages, we think they’re so much more complex than that. Short stories have the ability to act as both a window and a mirror.

  • Windows are objects you can view the world through—in story form, they can help us grow as global citizens and learn about other people’s experiences.
  • Mirrors reflect whatever is put in front of them; they allow us to see ourselves as we are. In a story, mirrors give students the opportunity to write about what they know, explore their personal histories, and to show up as their authentic selves.

As you can imagine, we love short stories at 826. This resource provides an abundance of Sparks that will support students as they build their craft.
