Writing makes time for students to reflect on relationships and to better understand each other. It can serve as a window for students to look through, inviting them to explore how diverse experiences shape the unique stories of those we share the world with, past and present. Approaching writing through a lens of social awareness, centered on empathy and perspective-taking, allows students to recognize how all of our stories are informed by our different realities and yet are deeply interconnected.
