Author bios offer students another opportunity to express themselves through writing and to feel like a real author. This Spark walks students through the process of writing one.

What You Will Do

Author bios are an important part of the 826 publishing process—826 students themselves have said that writing author bios was their favorite part of the project, because it helped make them feel like the real, professional authors they are! You can read more about the 826 publishing process here.

STEP 1

On pages 1–3 of the Author Bios— Handout, locate the example 826 Network student author bios that match the grades of your students. Read the examples together. After you’ve finished reading the examples, ask your students the following: 

What do you notice about the way the bios are written?  Younger students :Does the author describe themselves from their own point of view by using “I, me, my”? Or is the bio written about the author using their first name and pronouns such as they, she, or he? Older students: Describe the tone of the bios. What...
