The Dialogue Alphabet Game

This activity reinforces the role of dialogue in a story, with students creating realistic conversation in A-Z fashion.
What Your Students Will Learn

In this activity, students learn to create realistic dialogue to add meaning and convey important details in their writing.

What You Will Do

Dialogue is an awesome way to add lots of meaning to a story. But like other plot elements, dialogue can either help drive a story forward—by conveying important details about conflict, action, and relationships to the reader—or make a reader pump the brakes. Have students work in pairs. One student in each pair should take a blank piece of lined paper and write the alphabet, A—Z, with one letter on each line. Taking turns, students will write a script between two characters. The student who goes first can pick any letter to start. From there, each new line of dialogue...
