About the Author

Johan is the Senior Vice President of Oceans at WWF-US. Prior to joining WWF, Johan worked for Paul Allen’s Vulcan, representing the organization in Washington, DC, and working globally to develop, launch, and scale science, technology, environmental, and national security programs. Johan holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Iowa and a master’s degree from Georgetown University. He lives in Washington, DC with his wife and two children.

What You Will Do

Writing can be challenging at times: finding the right words to perfectly convey your meaning takes patience, tenacity, and most of all, practice! In this lesson, you will build a consistent writing practice, over the course of 4 weeks, that will hopefully help you feel like a stronger, more confident writer!

STEP 1 

Watch the video and then answer these questions in your writing journal: What does the phrase “battling the page” mean to you? 

STEP 2

Next, you will reflect on your feelings about writing and yourself as a writer. Answer the questions on page 1 of the Battling the Page — Handout. Try to take your time and answer the questions as thoroughly as possible because you will use your answers to choose your goals when you create your tracker.
