What You Will Do

The meet cute is a tried-and-true method of introducing two characters who are destined for love or friendship. In this Spark, students will learn more about the craft of designing a meet cute and then write their own. 

Begin by asking students to freewrite about a time when they met someone important in their lives: a friend, a coach, a teacher, a family member, someone they’ve dated, etc. What specifically made this moment memorable—was it an awkward situation, did you have an incredible conversation, was the setting remarkable, etc.? After three minutes, ask for a couple volunteers to share their memory and the part that made the moment memorable. Write the memorable components on the board.
