What Your Students Will Produce

Students will produce a second draft that has been edited for sentence fluency. 

What You Will Do

Before You Begin

  • This activity guides students through a process to revise a piece of writing for sentence fluency. 
  • You know your students best.  Before you begin, decide if students will edit their own piece of writing from the start or use a shared piece of writing as an example before trying it out on their own. When they’re ready, you can set them off to work independently revising their writing using the editing checklist provided.

 

STEP 1 (5 Minutes)

Begin by leading students in a brief discussion about revision and editing.  Ask students about their previous experiences with these parts of the writing process: 

  • What are the main differences between revision and editing? 
  • Why do they both matter?  
  • How does it feel to edit vs. revise?
