Monster Mash Up

by 826 National
IT’S ALIVE! In this Spark, students will play a version of the classic Exquisite Corpse activity to create new monster characters.
What Your Students Will Learn

Students will learn a fun way to brainstorm a new character.

What Your Students Will Produce

Students will produce a profile for their new monster character.

What You Will Do

Before You Start

  • This activity is inspired by the word game Exquisite Corpse. In Exquisite Corpse, players take turns adding to a story and then hiding their part before passing their paper to the next player. Each player’s initial story grows as their papers get passed around the circle, and the result is often very silly and nonsensical. In this activity, students will take turns drawing parts of a monster.
  • On page 1 of the handout, there is a monster drawing template that can be used with grades 3-5, to help students with the folding. Students in grades 6-12 can use a blank piece of paper.
  • We suggest that you prepare your own silly monster drawing, like the one students will create in STEP 1, so you can quickly model the process.
