This Is Me

by Lucas Hu, 826 Boston
A poem about staying true to yourself during a challenging transition
About the Author

Lucas Hu is from Boston, MA. Lucas likes to play video games and browse through my phone during my free time. He was brought to America when he was around 6. Lucas hopes to become a software engineer in the future.

This Is Me

Chinese descent is bestowed upon me at birth.
Parents solemn enough to travel for better opportunities.

I dwell in their hardship of coming to the land of dreams.

Despite being in great depth of poverty.

In this new mysterious land

Confused by everything and its native language

I disguised myself in different categories of people

Gaining new knowledge of the world

I dreamt of becoming a software engineer to this society

Upon setting my foot on this road

I know there will be obstacles obstructing my goals.

Rebirth like a phoenix but with Chinese descent

I carry my roots on my shoulders

People perceive me as just another Asian from what they’ve heard.

These rumors are just a false illusion toward me.

In the interior, others would perceive me considerably as

intelligent and mute

Like a predator slowly approaching its prey.

I pale in comparison to others who are more hardworking.

In reality, I am hidden in my home

Maneuvering whatever I need to do 24/7

Technology accompanies me wherever I go

Staying and helping me when I achieve my dream.

Technology corresponds with how my life and career will go.

This is me and my profound technology as it guides me.

La tecnología me transforma, me inspira, y me motiva.
Tecnología me ayuda a ser quien yo soy
